Men -The Forgotten Gender

Men—the forgotten gender? With a patriarchal society to deal with, even though the “power” and “domination” lies with men, but legally and socially, the society is more inclined and soft towards women. I think the power with metro men today has become only a false notion to a large extent, which is not bringing them down to equality with women, but in dominance of them.
Here are the some ways where society is partial and harsh against men :
  1. A 27 year old non-working Indian woman? Don't worry, she has the choice of being at home and have the luxury of marrying a settled guy. A 27 year old non-working Indian man? He should start worrying a lot, and probably forget marriage for next few years.
  2. After marriage, for women, in every way they have to leave their former home. It's clear and no one judge them. However for men, it's totally opposite. Today many women demand a separate home than in-laws. Now if the man disregards the choice of wife, he's a bad husband and his marriage suffers, and if he separates, he's a bad son. He loses both ways.
  3. Mother Vs Wife. Honestly I consider myself very lucky that I need not go through the difficult task of playing Mother Vs Husband or Father Vs Husband day to day. When both the important ladies of a man's life get into a fight, the one who pays the most is the man.
  4. Just think about their mental pressure when they supposed to strike a balance between the former family (parents & siblings) and the later family (wife and children). Because all of them are his responsibility as a man.
  5. Is it 11 pm? Are you having a back pain? Are your legs hurting? Is it raining or snowing outside? But is there a kind of some emergency at home? Are you a man? Then you're supposed to go out no matter what and do the needful.
  6. Working, traveling, touring for twelve hours a day across the city/country/world for their family, most of their lives, still no recognition. No one even celebrates men's day.
  7. Is there a thief in the house? Yes you are supposed to go and beat him with a broom, when you know he might have a gun. More than your own safety, you're supposed to ensure the safety of your family, especially women and kids.
  8. You're a man? You can stay back up to 2 A.M to do some extra work in office sometimes? It's totally safe (or not) for men. Even if it's flooding outside, you can always swim back to your home because you're the “stronger gender.”
  9. Man molest a woman, man goes to jail. Woman molest a man, woman is free.
  10. Your girlfriend is catcalled by some goons, you go and warn them, they beat you up. You ignore them, your girlfriend calls you coward.
  11. Going on a family vacation? There are twenty suitcases of twenty kilograms each waiting to be loaded in five cars? No problem, the men got it. The machine ain't working? No problem, the men got it.
  12. Women still have the choice to earn or not, after marriage and after kids, but no such choice exist for most men.
  13. The man must only propose. If he tries too hard, he's desperate and he lose. If he plays it cool, he's arrogant and slow, she chooses someone else, and again he loses.
  14. You want a beautiful girl, you're called shallow. You want a average girl, you're called blind. You want a rich girl, you're called greedy. You want a poor girl, you're called stupid. You want a young girl, you're called oldie. You want an old girl, you're called rebel. You want a virgin girl, you're called chauvinist. You want a non virgin girl, you're called show off. You want an educated working girl, you're called shameless. You want a housewife, you're called oppressive. If you don't want a girl at all, you're called gay.
  15. One fake rape/molestation case, game finished.
  16. Long day, one seat in public transport, and only very limited chance to win it against the opposite gender.
  17. Women need help, people flock in groups to help them everywhere. Men need help, ohh sorry, what help.
  18. Which gender has the badge of “sex hungry”?
  19. Third wave feminism is confused, because it is not for equality but against masculinity.
  20. You should be a “modern man.” Which actually doesn't imply equality again like real issues in opportunities. “Modern man” means earning 20 LPA+ and giving every luxury to wife without expecting anything in return, and letting her do whatever she wants in the name womanhood and feminism. Else there is a strong chance you might win the badge of being sexist.
  21. For twenty five years society tells you not to show/feel emotions. Crying is a big no. Then a woman comes and she expects and demands your emotions like a pro, else you're emotionless. And there you're, emotionally confused.
  22. Had a great time with your girl? Good. Now you should drop her home because it isn't safe for her. Even if that takes you extra hour or two and even if you're dead tired, and even if it leaves you in danger of being looted or murdered. It's on you, not her.
  23. You're forty with a family of six to support and lost your job? God bless your sleep, health and happiness.
  24. She did something wrong, you must have provoked her. You did something wrong, you're like this only.
  25. Men must not be too short, too sensitive, too emotional, too vocal, too lean, too weak, too this and too that, else such men are not “manly” enough.
  26. You do work at home, society judges you. You don't do work at home, your wife judges you.
  27. It's so abrubt how “wife beating/dominating/frightening” her husband are normal jokes in our society. “She made him sleep on the couch or his wife scolds/controls him like a child”, why are such things funny? If they're done against women, they're “domestic violence”.
  28. Men are being sold poison in the shape of cigarettes and Alcohol and drugs, still they're using them to reduce their mental pressure.
  29. Wedding and pregnancy is almost about the woman. While the woman is being pampered, given gifts like clothes and jewellery from both families and relatives, the groom/father is busy in getting the room painted in color and design according to her wish.
  30. Ohh did I mention your degree, job, package, property and car defines you? Especially in the marriage market.
  31. A crying male? Shame shame.
  32. You moved on fast from a break up? You could be a potential playboy. You're sulking even after years? You're a cry baby acting like a girl.
  33. A boy child and a girl child. Who gets more protection and pampering in most households?
  34. Men don't even have periods to blame their mood on. :P
I am not going to comment how many of them are right or wrong, based on the structure of our society. But I have definitely come to realize that men are also not as free and blessed as this patriarchal society make us believe.
Being a man is as difficult as being a woman, sometimes even more.
