What makes a relationship last long?

*Riya and Zoya, two best friends meet each other after years of marriage.*

Riya *sobbing *: ‘He has changed.’

Zoya *surprised*: ‘Changed? How?’

Riya *wiping her eyes*: ‘He does not say ‘I love you' anymore to me. I don't think he loves me now.’

Zoya *keeps her hand on her chin *: ‘And?’

Riya *crying again*: ‘When we got married, he used to profess his love for me numerous times in a day, but now, months pass and he hardly ever say those three words.’

Zoya takes a deep breath.

‘Riya, tell me something, you son Ahaan is ten years old right?’

Riya nods.

‘Yes.’ She says.

‘Remember when he was three, you continuously used to tell him about the concept of day and night, the concept of light and darkness. That when it is light, it is daytime, and when it is dark, it is nighttime? Do you still tell him that ten times a day?’

*Riya looks at her friend, confused, shaking her head.*

‘No. Why will I teach him that? Now he has grown up, he knows about this concept, why will I tell him about it now? I have already told him the fact, he knows it, it is an obvious part of his life, and I have lots of other things to teach him.’

*Zoya smiled.*

‘Exactly. Your husband has already told that he loves you a numerous number of times. He had already stated the fact, and he assumes by now his love is universal for you and has become an obvious part of your life. A concept which you're aware of. He thinks you trust him and his love, so he does not feel the need to give you constant reminders of love.’

*Riya was listening to her friend, spellbound.*

‘Riya, just like you don't remind your son that it is a day, because you assume that he is wise enough to figure that out by seeing the bring sun shining, the same way, your husband assumes that you can figure out his deep love for you by feeling his actions of love and care. That is why he no longer feels the need to say it in words anymore. He trusts your wiseness enough to know that he loves you now even more deeply than before. He just might know how to put all those deeper feelings in words. He does not says he loves you, but he proves if by his actions everyday.’

*Riya smiled. She had learned a very valuable lesson.*

One of the ways to make a relationship last a lifetime is by learning the languages of love. And no, verbal language is only one of them.

‘Don't try to find love in words when you can see it in actions. Words are only partial medium of love, not complete evidence of it.’
